August 1st. Freedom has a taste.

The Swiss Confederation is turning 735. The Caminovation Club is ten. No comparison of the numbers – but a kinship of idea: Both originated not from a decree, but from a handful of people who agreed that one bears responsibility oneself instead of delegating it.

In 1291, men banded together because they wanted to be accountable to no one but themselves. In 2016, a few cigar smokers did the same in a back room, driven by the same instinct: no statutes, no board, seven ambassadors, one president – freedom that organizes itself, not freedom that is administered.

A cigar is the antithesis of modern convenience. It cannot be sped up, outsourced, or consumed at the push of a button. Good tobacco requires soil, climate, craftsmanship, time – and a person willing to do nothing but be present for 60 minutes. This is precisely its radical nature: it rejects the expectation of having everything effortlessly and at any time.

And yet, smoking a cigar is never a solitary act. It's rarely done alone – it's smoked in a group. With the cutter, the lighting, the first puffs, something is created that no video conference or networking event can ever achieve: time without an agenda. No elevator pitch, no business card, no hidden agenda – just a flame, a ring, a conversation that can't be rushed. It's precisely there that true connections are forged. Not out of calculation, but out of shared time.

This is the true essence of the Caminovation Club: not the cigar alone, but what develops between the puffs.
